Alternatively, access the trail from San Gabriel Park by exiting I-35 and heading east on Williams Drive, turning north onto Austin Ave. and looking for the park on the right. The Hike: Georgetown features a network of trails along the San Gabriel River, with many folks starting at the trailhead at Blue Hole Park. I see bikers coming off the San Gabriel Bike Trail but I don’t see where they get on, where the entrance is. I’ve tried to find a detailed map of the upper San Gabriel bike trail that would give me entry and exit points as I don’t want to ride the full 38 miles and I can’t seem to find anything like that. The San Gabriel River trail turns into beach sand as it ends up at the Pacific Ocean. The River Hut eatery to the left, the beach in the center and the San Gabriel River on the right. On the far side of the San Gabriel River is the Alamitos Bay Marina. Further north is Naples and the start of the Long Beach / Belmont Shore bike trails.
Mixed with sections of intermittent singletrack, that weave through the cedars and prickly pear cactus along the banks of the San Gabriel River. Finally, the far southern confluence with the Los Angeles River marks both the end of the Rio Hondo Bikeway and the start of the LA River Trail. Thus you could conceivably begin your journey in the neighborhood of North El Monte and not dismount until you’ve hit Long Beach. Now that’s a bike ride.
